092215.LauraRenna.MovingDayAtlFrom the cornfields of Illinois, Laura Renna was raised to be a philanthropist and volunteer! She remembers delivering Meals on Wheels to elderly shut-ins with her grandma at the age of four. As she got older, Laura also helped at the local library, soup kitchen and even collected money on the street corner for her various pet charities.  Although she began her career after college as an administrative assistant to a criminal law attorney, she rather quickly decided she would make her passion for helping people her career as well.  After working at the Alzheimer’s Association and the Georgia Tech Alumni Association as an event coordinator, two years ago she was hired to run the National Parkinson Foundation major fundraiser, Moving Day Atlanta.

Nearly one million people in the US are living with Parkinson’s disease. The cause is unknown and although there is presently no cure, there are treatment options such as medication and surgery to manage symptoms and support groups throughout Atlanta to help PD sufferers and their Care Givers. In fact, Emory is a Parkinson’s Center of Excellence and is a wonderful source of information and support for Parkinson Sufferers.

If you or anyone you care about has Parkinson’s Disease, please get involved in fun event by going to: www.movingdayatlanta.org  to sign up a neighborhood or workplace team to walk at Centennial Park on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Registration starts at 9am with Opening Ceremonies to follow. It’s a 5K walk with a Kids Area and lots of fun food and stuff to do.

It’s FREE to sign up and all money raised goes to help Parkinson’s Group support and Research for a Cure. For more info call Laura Renna at 404-228-9512 or email: lrenna@parkinson.org

Thanks to Griswold Home Care for sponsoring today’s show. Griswold Home Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Atlanta for more than 23 years.
