Move Well, Move Often and Move “A Step Ahead” with Physical Therapy!

061416.BradFreemyerWith more than 25 years of experience, Brad Freemyer, Owner and Therapy Director at A Step Ahead Physical Therapy, has a treatment philosophy that values personalized, hands-on care. He has been a big proponent of finding and treating the root of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms.  This involves seeing the body as a whole and understanding the entire human movement system.  In recent years, he has developed a passion for Wellness and Prevention.  This passion led to the new tag line of “Move Well, Move Often, Be Well” which encapsulates his philosophy of what physical therapy represents and what it can accomplish in a participant’s life.

He continues to keep his ear to the ground in regard to therapies and treatments that are on the forefront of the physical therapy field. Through Brad’s direction and leadership, A Step Ahead is moving headlong into health and wellness, promoting a Women’s Health Series, Functional Movement Screening and Corporate Wellness. He believes that preventative physical therapy can reduce or eliminate the need for rehabilitative therapy for many patients. He and his staff are currently conducting educational research and development of the individualized treatment model that his clinic demonstrates and he hopes to see used in future Physical Therapy curriculum. If you or your elderly loved one could benefit from A Step Ahead Physical Therapy, contact Brad Freemyer for an appointment at 770-998-6636 or check out www.asaphysicaltherapy.com and Get Moving Well again!

Proactive Communication protecting your loved one during any Severe Weather Warning….WeatherCall

Gene Norman grew up in New York, got his meteorology degree at University of Maryland and moved to Florida to work for NASA.  In 1993, Gene decided what he really wanted to do was be a TV weatherman. So he proceeded to “knock on the doors” of one TV station after another near Houston, where he was living at the time. He ended up doing weekend weather in Beaumont, Texas. In 2000 he moved to Atlanta to do weather for CBS affiliate Channel 46. After 8 years at Channel 46, he left to be a Grandpa and explore other weather-related ventures…

As meteorology and weather prediction has become more sophisticated, weather warnings are more targeted. Although T.V. and radio stations still do “county wide” weather warnings, the  weather stations know the specific parameters of the actual warning area. WeatherCall calls three phone numbers of your choice with a recorded message about the specific warning any time the address of your loved one falls into the actual warning area. They will also follow with a text if the number is text capable. This incredibly accurate service can be had for a nominal fee!! For more details, tune in to this Eugeria broadcast!

Gene also is available to speak about weather safety to Senior Living Communities, Senior Service Centers and other groups….Just give him a ‘WeatherCall’ at 770-376-0497, email him at gene.norman@weathercall.net, or check the website: www.weathercallservices.com

Care Patrol – Helping You Navigate the Jungle of Choices in Senior Living!

022616.BruceMack.CarePatrolBruce Mack met Lori, his wife of 34 years in elementary school, but he wisely waited until high school to start dating her and when he got his job at UPS, 34 years ago, they tied the knot that still holds!  They have 2 young adult children. During his 34 year career at UPS he managed several different departments. After retiring, he decided to use a franchise coach to help him choose a business in which he could “reinvent himself.”

Care Patrol caught his attention with their focus on helping seniors, on the safety and service of each senior community they represent (and not just beauty and promises) and their fine representation in the Atlanta, with 3 franchises in different metro areas. They all work together to assess a senior’s needs, educate them on the choices available and help navigate and negotiate all aspects of the move! The best part for seniors and their families is it is FREE! Like a professional Realtor for the Senior Living Industry, they get paid per placement by the community (in real estate, the seller.)

“When Everyone Tells You ‘It’s All in Your Head,’ First, Check the Neck!”

20160112_144139Dr. Cailen Wells, a young, enthusiastic Doctor of Specific Chiropractic is a native of Michigan, and after graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 2005 with a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition, landed in Atlanta by way of Life Chiropractic College, where she earned a post graduate degree in chiropractic medicine. Upon graduating, she joined a chiropractic practice in St. Mary’s, Georgia, largely serving our military. After several years in a small community, she decided to bring her practice and her paradigms to the big city of Atlanta.

“What is often discounted or even missed in other forms of medical care is the protective encasement and saddle of the brain stem or the Atlas, which is the ‘control tower’ of the nervous system!  The atlas is the protective encasement of bone at the base of the neck which holds the head, the brain, and most importantly, the brain stem.”  The Atlas is the specific part of specific chiropractic….which Dr. Cailen and other specific chiropractors believe is the saddle and protective shield of the brain stem, and when locked by untreated head trauma, as in sports injury, car accident,  or even unusual stress, can be a source of malfunction for the entire body!

Dr. Wells has extensive articles and learning opportunities available on her website: www.thexfitdoc.com and she can be reached at 678-805-7344. Her office is located in the Northpoint mall area.

Hospice, a Natural Step in the Care Continuum Offering Dignity and Comfort

Eugeira 10_20_2015Jennifer Nikiforyan, Community Liaison and Owner, for Atlanta Family Hospice says that she didn’t choose the eldercare profession, “it chose her”.  After relocating from Canada, and a personal experience with a family member, her parents opened a small personal care home in Lawrenceville, GA.  An outgrowth of her church, New Hope Care Home is where Jennifer came to appreciate the satisfaction of serving the elderly.  It was this “satisfaction” that led her to open Atlanta Family Hospice in June of 2015.

Though new to Atlanta, the parent company of Atlanta Family Hospice has plenty of experience in the hospice arena.  With locations in Oregon, Arizona, Texas and now Georgia, the principals know what’s important to those individuals seeking hospice care.  “When asked, most patients say they would like to spend their final days in a place they call home and surrounded by people they love. “ Atlanta Family Hospice is dedicated to dignity and comfort for the patient and family in their delivery of care.   “We want the client to choose where they want to be, who they want to be with, and how they want to spend their time”; educating clients that “hospice is a natural step in the care continuum”.

For more information on Atlanta Family Hospice, visit them on the web at www.atlantafamilyhospice.com or call Jennifer at 678-427-0637.

Kick Wounds to the Curb with Great and Easy-To-Use Products by QCE Labs!

100615.TyHollingshead.QCELabsTy Hollingshead, QCE marketing director (If her name looks familiar, she also markets for Cool Contours, our radio guest last week) went to Kennesaw State University, interested in nursing and science, but when she fainted in the lab, she decided she’d find some other way to “help people.” She ended up getting her Bachelors’ in Business and went into physical medicine where she found her love for bringing great products to the marketplace! Ty has an extensive   healthcare background, effervescent personality and experience bringing health and wellness products to seniors, but she is also the daughter of the co-founder of Quality Chemical Enterprise (QCE Labs) Ty says, “It’s hard to say ‘No’ to Daddy!”

QCE Laboratories was started 11 years ago by Ty’s father, a chemical engineer, and his MD Pharmacist friend as a manufacturing facility devoted to developing products for the healthcare industry that fulfill specific needs and provide added convenience – particularly in nutrition and wound care therapy.  They are proud to be a small local business with real people going out into the community, like Ty! QCE offers efficient, cost saving, quality products that provide added value by reducing the number of meds being dispensed, saving time during med-pass and providing a higher quality of resident care.

Their flagship product, Decubi-Vite® was developed by a consultant pharmacist who, while servicing long term care facilities, discovered a common and recurring need among nurses when it came to decubitus care –”Why can’t someone put a therapeutic multi-vitamin, extra Vitamin C and Zinc into one capsule”? So they did! By combining three ingredients into one capsule, nurses spent less time administering products and more time caring for their patients. From that point on, it has been QCE’s focus to provide tried and true protocols that not only save money, but are packaged in such a way that they save time as well.

Call 800-710-8882 to find out more about QCE’s nutritional supplements and wound care products or go online to order at www.qcelabs.com. Tell them you heard of them on Eugeria! Radio and RECEIVE a 20% DISCOUNT on your order!
