Success 4 Hearts – Confessions of a Certified Heart Failure Nurse!

Haron, PamPam Haron is passionate about heart failure!  Or rather, she is passionate about educating patients and their families about heart failure, its treatment and rehabilitation.  Originally from Tennessee, Pam intended to be a school teacher.  Two years into her teaching career, she fell in love, got married and started raising a family.  At that time, her husband encouraged her to go back to school to earn a degree that would allow her to support herself, should the need ever arise.  That encouragement turned out to be prophetic, as her husband passed away only two years later.  Pam had taken his advice, and became a registered nurse after completing Cleveland State Community College’s Nursing Program.

In 1998, Pam moved to Atlanta, and took a position at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a Critical Care Nurse – far out of her comfort zone!  Over time, she as exposed to transplants, rejections and heart failure disease management.  She realized then that her passion was serving heart patients and their families.  She went on to become a Certified Heart Failure Nurse, and is now a 29-year veteran of the nursing profession.

Three years ago, Pam left the hospital environment to become a patient educator.  This is where her passion really shines through.  Listen in as she chats with us, and educates us about heart failure, its treatments and rehabilitations.  For more information check out these websites:  www.aahfnpatienteducation.org, www.hgsa.org, www.heart.org.  To contact Pam directly, send her an email at success4hearts@gmail.com.

Wanted: Volunteers to Assist in Alzheimer’s Research!

Sambunaris, AngeloLike many doctors, Angelo Sambunaris made his way through med school courtesy of the US Government.  After a tour as a US Army Combat Medic, Dr. Sambunaris attended the University of Colorado in Colorado Spring, earning a degree in Biology.  He went on to med school at the Colorado School of Medicine in Denver.  He wanted to be more than a clinician, so he started working in clinical research.  At the National Institute of Mental Health, he worked in the area of schizophrenia research.  He went on to work with several pharmaceutical companies, also doing research.  As his career began to take off, Dr. Sambunaris found himself spending more time behind a desk, or in meetings than he preferred, and he missed working directly with patients.

With that in mind, Dr. Sambunaris founded The Atlanta Institute of Medicine and Research.  Today, he remains the Medical Director and Principal Investigator for a company that works to test new treatments for a variety of cognitive disorders.  In this capacity, Dr. Sambunaris sees every patient that walks through the door of his office. When asked about his biggest challenge in his practice, he emphatically stated, “We need more volunteers!”

Qualified candidates receive a physical, an assessment, treatments and medication for no cost!  To find out if you or your loved one qualifies, call Dr. Sambunaris at (770) 817-9200, or visit the website at www.researchmeds.com.
